Blixa Bargeld, Myriam Bleau, Vessel and Pedro Maia will be in Curtocircuíto
NewsBlixa Bargeld will offer the first solo visit to Galicia! The German, an essential figure in European music for the last four decades, will offer a solo vocal performance in Curtocircuíto on Saturday, 5 October. He will join the live A/V performances of the English composer and producer Vessel along with the Portuguese filmmaker Pedro Maia; Ballistics, the Canadian Myriam Bleau; RŪGA, a collaboration between visual artist Marta Verde, the sound creator Artur M. Puga and the choreographer and researcher Javier Martín curated by Curtocircuíto; and the Trifulca concert.
Blixa Bargeld, an essential figure in European music in the last 40 years
Blixa Bargeld (West Berlin, 1959) is a guitarist, composer, performer, actor and poet. In 1980, he founded the pioneer group of industrial music Einstürzende Neubauten, of which he remains the leader and vocalist. In addition, from 1984 to 2003 he was guitarist and vocalist of the legendary band Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. In recent years he has worked alongside the sound engineer of Einstürzende, Boris Wilsdorf, on a series of vocal experiments, such as the one he will present in Curtocircuíto. In this performance, Bargeld will question the usual conception of terms like ‘speech’, ‘sound’ and ‘music’. The audience will witness how his characteristic voice is transformed to create acoustic structures, sound atmospheres and strange cacophony from scratch without using samples or prerecorded tracks. Everything will be created live on stage.

Exploring the relationship between image, light and movement
The composer and digital artist Myriam Bleau will travel from Canada to present her Ballistics show in the inaugural session, which will be held on 28 September in the Sala Capitol. In this audiovisual performance, luminous pendulums equipped with motion sensors will be used to create uneven landscapes and rhythms. Bleau, has presented her works previously at festivals such as Ars Electronica (AT), Sónar (ES), Sonic Arts Award (IT), Mutek (MX), Transmediale (DE), ACT (KR), LEV (ES), Scopitone (FR), among others.
The tandem made up of Vessel and the Portuguese filmmaker based in Berlin Pedro Maia, will also visit Galicia together for the first time after more than five years collaborating together. Maia, known for his innovative use of analog film techniques, has designed a perfect visual accompaniment for Queen of Golden Dogs (2018), Vessel's latest work. The performance will take place on Friday, 4 October in the Sala Capitol.
Focusing on light and movement, the visual artist Marta Verde, the sound creator Artur M. Puga and the choreographer and researcher Javier Martín in RŪGA, will also propose their work, a show created exclusively for the festival. In this performance the three will merge the body with the moving image and modular synthesis, all of this articulated through improvisation, feedback and the study of rhythm and light in real time. It will be at the Teatro Principal on Thursday, 3 October.
The musical program is closed by the Compostelano duo Trifulca, made up of Carlos Gómez and Guillermo Cavero, both prolific artists who have been members of bands such as Puma Pumku and Vozzyow. Now they have put aside the guitars and immersed their ambitions in electronic music, dark techno and quakin bass.
The Santiago de Compostela International Film Festival, which will make public the times and put tickets on sale for these shows in the coming days, is organised by the Ayuntamiento de Santiago, and funded, among others, by the Diputación de A Coruña, AGADIC and the ICAA.
